How to do a Full Body Detox at Home

In today’s post, I want to talk about three ways you can detox that are inexpensive, convenient and can be done right at home.

Let’s talk about detoxing. This word is thrown around all the time. Everyone wants to know if they should do a juice detox or a cleanse…the truth is detoxing your body regularly with little things here and there is super important and really efficient. You don’t have to wait once a year to do this crazy detox cleanse. I’m also not a huge fan of detox pills because I don’t think one pill could detox your whole body- seems really harsh. Why not just do things all the time so that you don’t have such build up. You don’t clean your house once a year, you don’t wash your car once a year, so we can treat our bodies the same.

Dry Brushing

There are all sorts of different brushes you can get. Just like it says in the name, you are brushing your skin while it’s DRY- you don’t want to do this in the shower, and you don’t want to use oils or lotions. The purpose of dry brushing is two-fold:

Getting rid of dead skin cells. Sometimes dead skin cells can sit on the surface of your skin and get clogged up. This is one way to get rid of them…almost like exfoliating your face.

Help lymphatic drainage. Your lymphatic system is basically part of your immune system- it’s made of lymph nodes, ducts, vessels…and the whole point is to get lymph flow going through your body. This lymphatic flow is getting rid of toxins in your blood.

How to: You don’t have to brush really hard- this shouldn’t hurt. You just want to do light brush strokes towards your heart and towards the center of the body, going over the same part a few times. When it comes to your stomach, go in a counter-clockwise direction to support lymphatic flow and improve digestion. Do this right before you get into the shower, then just do a normal rinse. Your skin is going to feel so nice and soft after.

A lot of people have even said that lymphatic massage can improve the appearance of cellulite…something to think about before an event. This is really detoxing, incredibly easy and you can buy it for $10 – $15 on Amazon. Here’s the link to one I like.

Chlorophyll Water.

Chlorophyll is basically what plants need for energy. The same way they give plants energy, they are going to give ourselves energy. Chlorophyll is one of the most detoxing ingredients that can be added to a smoothie, water…so easy, so effective and so good for you. When you think about things like wheatgrass, chlorella or spirulina- these are all different forms of algae, so all along the same lines.

I really like using chlorophyll drops (Sakara makes a good one). I put five full drops in a glass of water once or twice a day. It looks really green, but tastes like nothing. It’s also a conversation starter…people will ask you why your water is green :). It’s especially smart if you consume a lot of fish- the mercury content can be a little high, so you can make sure that’s not building up in your bloodstream and avoid heavy metal toxicity.

Benefits:

  • Speeds up wound healing
  • Detoxifies blood
  • Detoxifies liver
  • Can prevent disease states
  • Can prevent certain cancers

Eat Organic Fresh Fruit for Breakfast

This sounds too good to be true, but fruit is the most naturally detoxing food on the planet.

Don’t forget that when you are sleeping, your body is in a natural state of detox because you’re fasting, so your digestive tract is clearing everything out and making way for what’s to come next. This is why sometimes you don’t smell that great in the morning…bad breath, sweat- that’s your body literally detoxing.

The first thing you put in your body is SO important, which is why I always say to have organic fresh fruit first thing in the morning. It is very easily digested (takes about 20 minutes) and because it is naturally detoxing on its own, it will help extend that natural detox that we have throughout the night.

I think everyone can afford to add these three things into their daily regimen. Putting in this little bit of effort now is really going to save you in the long run (headache, health issues, money). Hope you enjoyed reading :)
