Beauty Tips: How to Get Healthy Hair

Today’s blog is all about healthy hair. I’m going to share the products I use, the tools I use, and a quick tutorial on the hair dryer I use every day that you guys have been asking me a lot about.

One of the most important things to do before you blow dry your hair – no matter what kind of hair dryer or curling iron you’re using – is HEAT PROTECTANT. I like to think of products and heat protectant as a protective layer between your hair and the heat. Reasonably, you don’t want to pile on a bunch of products, but the more things we can put on, the better… especially things that are going to condition, hydrate, and really lock in moisture. Dry hair or split ends will make it hard for your hair to grow past a certain length. Here are my recommendations:

  • Unite 7 Seconds Detangler. Make sure to really spray it everywhere and get it on all of your hair. Before I brush it out, I like to apply my serum. When your hair is wet, it’s really susceptible to damage, so you want to brush it the most minimal amount you can. Just run your fingers through your hair with the product, then brush it at the end.
  • Kerastase Elixir Ultime Oil Serum. I use all different serums, so I’m not 100% stuck on this one, but just find one that works for your hair. I put two pumps in my hands and really rub them together first – If you don’t do that, it can make your hair feel really oily and weighed down. Then just finger comb your hair.
  • Oribe Invisible Defense. I love this product. It’s specifically for heat protection, so I always make sure to use it before I’m drying my hair. If I had to just use one product, it would be this. It’s great for photodamage, heat damage and environmental damage. Section your hair to ensure the product gets on all of it. When I put this in, then I go ahead and brush.
  • Brushing Tips: I use a Wet Brush – you can literally buy this on Amazon. The bristles are a little bit softer at the ends and they’re coated, so it’s not going to pull your hair. Always hold your hair near the root while you brush, so you don’t pull or create tension with your scalp.
    • I love using clean beauty and I”m sure a lot of you don’t want to use things that have damaging chemicals. But when it comes to hair, I’m a little bit more lenient because what you put on your hair isn’t actually getting absorbed into your body, unless it’s on your scalp. I try to always wear a robe or something protective so that what I’m spraying doesn’t get onto my skin …Seems a little extra, but I think it’s a clever tip.
  • Hair Dryer: Dyson Airwrap. I have never loved a beauty tool more than this one – I’m OBSESSED. I have wasted so much money at hair salons, getting blowouts, because I couldn’t get a smooth texture. This comes with different attachments for the head, and depending on if you get all of them, the price ranges, but it’s about $500. The only two attachments that I personally use are the hairbrush shape and the round brush.
    • How it works:
      1. It regulates the temperature of the air as it’s coming out, making sure it doesn’t get too hot and damage your hair.
      2. The maximum temperature is 10 degrees lower than other dryers.
      3. It’s SUPER fast!
    • How to:
      1. Section the top half of your hair like you’re doing a half ponytail.
      2. Start at the bottom and work your way up. (I use the highest heat temperature.)
      3. Separate the hair around the crown of your face, switch to the round brush, and blowdry the underlayer to give volume.
      4. Switch back to the brush attachment for the rest of your hair because it’s easier and doesn’t pull as hard.

The finished product is super smooth and silky :).
