This tea is basically a ginger and honey tonic that you add to hot water. It’s such a nice warm, soothing drink that has anti-inflammatory benefits. Ginger and honey have been used for years to combat cold and flu so this makes it the perfect winter drink. Let’s get into the recipe:

Ingredients:

2-3 inches fresh ginger

1 tbsp raw organic honey

8oz hot water

Instructions:

  1. Mince the ginger, or crush with a mortar and pestle
  2. Mash ginger into the honey to make a paste (If sealed, this paste will last up to 5 days in the refrigerator. You can use this as a tonic to prevent sickness)!
  3. Combine with hot water, adding any extra species of your choosing
  4. NOTE: if you don’t like the ginger minced you can strain it once mixed with hot water or just juice it from the beginning instead of mincing it.
  5. Optional if you want to top with cinnamon! Enjoy :)

Benefits of ginger:

Ginger contains a compound called gingerol which is the main bioactive, making it an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant rich ingredient. Other benefits to ginger include soothing nausea, reduction in joint pain, lower blood sugar levels, and newer research points to possible effects on weight loss (though more research is needed on this topic).

Benefits of honey:

Honey is an amazing anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant-rich ingredient. Research shows that honey has the ability to combat various drug-resistant bacteria and chronic inflammation, such as atherosclerosis and diabetes mellitus. Plus honey has even been shown to lower triglycerides. It’s basically a no-brainer to include honey as the sweetener in your diet, especially during cold and flu season, as it has so many benefits without the side effects that medications have. I recommend organic, sustainable, ethical honey brands (click here for a clean brand).

Hope this helps! Let me know if you try the recipe :)
