3 Skincare Tips for Anti-Aging

Today I’m talking about 3 natural skin care tips that reduce signs of aging. I am definitely not shaming anyone who wants to invest in botox or laser, but rather this blog is meant to offer alternatives to prevent aging and preserve your skin :)

I know this is a concern for a lot of you because I get so many questions from people wanting to prevent wrinkles and fine lines. The good news is that a lot of these are super easy to incorporate, so here are my 3 tips:

  1. SPF! Nothing is more important than SPF. I cannot stress this enough, especially for people in their teens and 20’s. This is not just something that people “think” can help with aging. It really is the #1 thing that will cause aging. Look at parts of your body that are never exposed to sun and you’ll probably notice those body parts are plumper and smoother than the parts of the skin exposed to the sun. I am a big supporter of physical sunscreen rather than chemicals… and remember never forget your neck and check too because these are indicators of aging as well!
  2. Boost collagen – Fun fact: the word collagen comes from a greek word meaning “glue,” so literally think of it as the glue that holds your skin together (keeps it plump, not saggy). There’s different ways to go about this. A lot of people are taking collagen supplements, but I don’t because I’m plant-based so rather than getting it from an animal I try to use vegan versions.
    • Topical solutions – I use Vitamin C, especially in an eye cream. Also – microneedling basically puts little holes on the surface of your skin and your body goes into repair mode by reducing more collagen.
    • Foods that boost collagen – broccoli, aloe vera, chlorella, spirulina
  3. Antioxidants – Bottom line: there are SO many different antioxidants so I want to break it down by talking about eating them and using them topically
    • Eating – green tea (both green tea and matcha are amazing & can even protect you from sun damage just by drinking it), organic berries, and acai are my favorite food sources – you could even make a green tea, berry, and acai smoothie to get it all in at once!
    • Topical solutions – Vitamin C (again), resveratrol (found in grapes, one brand I like is Caudalie), Vitamin A (2.5% or higher is amazing for anti-aging, boosting collagen production, exfoliating the skin, etc.)

Again, there is nothing wrong with cosmetic fillers or botox. Even if you choose to do them, I would still recommend these natural solutions as well because the results will be even better if you’re healing from within and have plump skin to begin with. Especially when it comes to incorporating healthy foods and SPF – no one is too young to start :)
